Traffic Directorate Receives 80 Radars, Implements Speed System

The General Traffic Directorate is preparing to receive an additional 80 radars in the coming days, ahead of their distribution and installation in Baghdad and the governorates. This comes alongside the setting of vehicle speeds on internal, external, and express roads, as part of a special system to be implemented soon. Lieutenant General Uday Samir, Director General of Traffic, stated that the new radars would be distributed with 40 units for Baghdad and 40 for other governorates. He explained that these devices operate at a 360-degree angle and are all mounted on patrols, noting that each governorate now possesses five mobile radars carried by patrols, distributed according to the lengths of their streets and external roads. Samir mentioned that the Directorate had previously imported a batch of radars and cameras utilizing artificial intelligence technologies, and their installation has been expanded across Baghdad and the governorates recently. Baghdad's smart traffic system currently includes 139 camera points distributed among intersections and squares, in addition to 60 radar points. In a related context, Samir revealed a new system for determining speeds on external and express roads, which will soon be generalized to all users of the smart traffic system. The Directorate has reached the final stages of testing this system before proceeding with its implementation. He added that speeds would vary, taking into account the type of roads and their usage, whether express, external, or internal. He also indicated that the smart traffic system, once implemented, would enable citizens to complete their transactions via mobile phones, thereby contributing to reducing their visits to the Directorate's offices. Furthermore, the Directorate recently opened new locations for completing traffic transactions in some districts of the governorates, aiming to alleviate citizens' travel to city centers and reduce congestion resulting from their visits to central locations.
