OIC Presidency Grants Baghdad Pivotal Diplomatic Role For An Entire Year
Iraq is officially assuming the presidency of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation for an entire year, coinciding with Baghdad hosting the 52nd session, stated Ambassador Hassanein Kamel, the session's official spokesperson. Kamel explained that the significance of this session extends beyond holding ministerial meetings in Baghdad, encompassing the nation's leadership of the council throughout the upcoming year. He emphasized that this vital diplomatic responsibility grants Iraq a pivotal role in overseeing council proceedings, enhancing mutual coordination, and advancing collective Islamic initiatives among all member nations. He added that the OIC ranks as the second-largest international organization following the United Nations, representing 57 member states, which underscores its crucial influence in addressing core concerns and discussing shared global matters. This diplomatic milestone aligns with Baghdad's active international engagement and its strategic drive to support multilateral partnerships.
