Education Minister Calls for Shielding Sector from Political Interference

Iraq's Minister of Education, Abdul Karim Abtan al-Jubouri, on Monday, called for political interventions to be kept out of the educational sector. He chaired an expanded meeting with Omar al-Mashhadani, Director-General of Educational Supervision, and supervision department directors from Baghdad and other provinces. The meeting focused on reviewing the current state of supervision, its obstacles, and proposals for performance improvement. Al-Jubouri affirmed the Ministry's decisions are "educational and well-considered, not impulsive." He urged intensified visits to remote schools to document their conditions and needs. Describing educational supervision as the "mature mind" of the education process, he highlighted its role in performance evaluation and course correction. He further instructed supervisors to monitor teacher conduct, performance, and appearance to restore their respect. The Minister emphasized the Ministry's accountability to society for any inappropriate behavior within educational institutions. He also advocated for involving parent-teacher associations in school matters and removing political interferences from educational work, unless such involvement genuinely aims to enhance the educational process and institutional prestige.
