The Central Bank of Iran announced today, Thursday, April 23, 2026, that revenues from fees imposed on ships crossing the Strait of Hormuz for "security services" will be collected exclusively in cash. The bank explained, according to Fars News Agency, that these fees are levied only on ships with transit permits, noting that the amount is variable and determined based on the type and quantity of cargo and the risk percentage associated with the voyage. Iranian monetary authorities confirmed that all proceeds will be deposited as cash currency, a move reflecting Tehran's insistence on full financial control over the strategic waterway amidst current tensions.
