U.S. Information Center: Expanding Sea Lane Off Oman to Ease Hormuz Traffic
The U.S. Navy Information Center announced ongoing efforts to expand a sea lane off the coast of Oman, aiming to facilitate the entry and exit of vessels through the Strait of Hormuz. This announcement, issued by the Joint Maritime Information Center, serves as a warning to Iran, emphasizing the United States' push to reopen the strait for navigation. Iran, for its part, insists that ships comply with its directives, cautioning that it will impose fees for passage through the strait, which previously accounted for one-fifth of total global oil and natural gas shipments. Both the United States and the Arab Gulf states have rejected these Iranian demands. Globally, the strait is considered an international waterway, despite being situated within the territorial waters of Iran and the Sultanate of Oman.
