Iranian Health Ministry: US Attacks Toll Reaches 50 Martyrs
Iran's Health Ministry announced Saturday that the death toll from US attacks on the country has risen to 50 martyrs, with over 500 injured, since June 27. Ministry spokesperson Hussein Karmanpour confirmed via "X" that 460 injured individuals have been discharged after treatment, while others remain hospitalized. These figures follow Karmanpour's Friday announcement of a previous toll of 38 martyrs and over 400 injured. For days, the United States has launched successive waves of strikes on sites inside Iran. In response, Tehran has attacked what it claims are American vessels, facilities, and military bases in several regional countries. Washington and Tehran had signed a June 18 memorandum of understanding to halt military operations and begin negotiations for a broader agreement. However, US President Donald Trump announced July 8 the temporary agreement's end, after three ships were targeted in the Strait of Hormuz. Subsequently, Washington resumed strikes inside Iran, amidst escalating Iranian responses. Washington demands freedom and security of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, while Tehran insists on regulating vessel passage through the strategic waterway, intensifying concerns over potential disruptions to regional oil and gas exports.
