US Envoy Arrives in Switzerland for Iran Talks Amid Secrecy
US envoy Steve Wittkoff has arrived in Switzerland, confirmed by American officials, with expectations that Jared Kushner, son-in-law of former US President Donald Trump, will join the anticipated technical talks with the Iranian side. This development coincides with a visit by Pakistani Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi to Tehran, where he is endeavoring to persuade Iranian officials not to postpone the talks with the American delegation in Switzerland, which were previously delayed. Meanwhile, the Swiss Foreign Ministry affirmed that diplomats from all parties are continuing their efforts in Burgenstock to facilitate the negotiations. In a statement, the ministry clarified, "Diplomats from various nations currently present are continuing their endeavors to establish dialogue." However, it emphasized that it could not disclose any information regarding the identities of attendees at the resort or the nature of the discussions, citing reasons of absolute confidentiality. These developments coincided with the arrival of the Pakistani minister, whose country is mediating between the two sides, in Iran for talks with senior officials. These Pakistani efforts aim to urge Tehran to proceed to Lucerne to resume dialogue. The Pakistani minister is expected to convey messages of persuasion to the Iranian capital regarding the necessity of commencing technical talks with the American side. The Iranian Foreign Ministry had previously indicated that the postponement of its delegation's travel to Burgenstock was to ensure the American side's commitment to implementing specific clauses, most notably halting military escalation on all fronts, including Lebanon, which has not materialized. Intense Israeli airstrikes on southern Lebanon have continued since last Thursday. Despite an announced ceasefire agreement on Friday afternoon, the airstrikes persisted for about an hour afterward and then resumed early Saturday morning, remaining ongoing.
