US Embassy in Baghdad Warns Citizens of Potential Escalation and Air Travel Disruptions

The U.S. Embassy in Baghdad has issued a security alert to its citizens, urging them to exercise extreme caution and follow security instructions amidst potential escalation. This warning comes at a time when the region is experiencing continuous instability and tension, necessitating constant awareness of developments. The security advisory included a set of fundamental measures, prominently featuring preparation for potential disruptions in travel. The Embassy encouraged its nationals to directly verify flight schedules with airlines or local airports, in anticipation of possible sudden flight cancellations or temporary closures of airspace in some countries. Furthermore, the Embassy requested citizens to completely avoid gatherings of all forms, and to stay away from demonstrations, protests, and any large assemblies. This also includes avoiding areas with a heavy security presence. To enhance preparedness and caution, the Embassy recommended that travelers and residents regularly monitor local media and register for the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to ensure receipt of urgent security updates and facilitate communication during emergencies. The diplomatic mission confirmed the continuation of its operations and the provision of consular and routine services to U.S. citizens to date, noting that its doors remain open.
