PMF Commander Announces Major Security Operation in Diyala's Thallab Basin

Talib Al-Mousawi, Commander of Diyala Operations for the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), announced on Monday the launch of a wide-scale security operation this morning to inspect the Thallab Basin area, southwest of Khanaqin district. The objective of this operation is to prevent the movements of the terrorist organization ISIS and thwart its efforts to establish new hideouts and strongholds in the region. In an issued statement, Al-Mousawi reported that the operation began at 6:00 AM and is being carried out through three primary axes. The First Division of the Iraqi Army is participating, alongside PMF brigades, supported by various specialized units. Al-Mousawi specified that the first axis is spearheaded by Iraqi Army forces, proceeding from southwest Khanaqin towards the Bilkanah gorge. The Iraqi Army, in conjunction with the 110th PMF Brigade, is executing the second axis, starting from the Kani Masi area. He further detailed that the 24th PMF Brigade is responsible for the third axis, launching from the Damaged Mosque intersection. This involves artillery, field engineering, explosives, and intelligence units, along with other formations of the command. The operations commander confirmed the operation is proceeding effectively, noting that participating forces are continuing search and sweep missions in targeted zones.
