The National Security Apparatus announced today, Friday, its success in apprehending three major drug traffickers through intensive intelligence efforts launched from within prisons across two governorates. The apparatus clarified in a statement that intelligence received from inside one of the prisons enabled tactical team detachments in Kirkuk, in cooperation with the security intelligence center affiliated with correctional departments, and after obtaining judicial approvals, to arrest two suspects outside the prison. One and a quarter kilograms of crystal methamphetamine were seized in their possession, along with drug paraphernalia. In Basra governorate, confessions from other detainees led to the identification of a drug dealer involved in smuggling prohibited substances into one of the prisons. The detachments successfully apprehended him red-handed. The statement affirmed that all necessary legal measures have been taken against the accused, who have been referred to the specialized judicial authorities to receive their fair punishment.
