Iraqi Navy Foils Oil Tanker Piracy Near Basra Port, 11 Arrested

An Iraqi naval force on Saturday foiled a piracy attempt targeting the MAYSAL-RAYM oil tanker, a "tanker" type vessel, near Basra Oil Port, arresting 11 suspects. The tanker came under attack by armed individuals aboard two barges in the maritime STS area. A naval force promptly intervened, successfully repelling the attempt and apprehending those involved. The 11 suspects were handed to Al-Faw police for investigation; the two barges used were also seized.
