The Federal Commission of Integrity announced on Saturday it has prepared a draft of international memoranda of understanding (MoUs) aimed at recovering funds and extraditing suspects. Abbas Mutab, Director General of the Recovery Department and Deputy Chairman of the Iraqi Funds Recovery Fund, highlighted varying levels of international cooperation on corrupt funds. Some countries are cooperative, he noted, while others decline for their own specific reasons. Mutab explained the department drafted these MoUs for signing with relevant countries to retrieve funds and suspects. He added that the Commission monitors developments, but some nations' domestic laws impede certain actions requested by Iraq. Iraq, he stated, resorts to negotiations and alternative mechanisms for cooperation. Many countries remain uncooperative for various reasons, including economic or humanitarian concerns. In some cases, an accused may have obtained refugee status, complicating extradition.
