Fao Tribal Office Urges Parliament to Host Foreign Minister, Ambassador, Basra Governor After Fisherman's Killing
The Fao Tribal Office has called on the Iraqi Parliament to host the Foreign Minister, the Iraqi Ambassador to Kuwait, and the Governor of Basra, following the killing of an Iraqi fisherman by the Kuwaiti coast guard. In a statement, Sheikh Mohammed Al-Hayyali, head of the office, strongly condemned what he described as "heinous aggression" by Kuwaiti coast guard forces against five Iraqi fishermen. These individuals had practiced their ancestral profession for centuries in Iraq's territorial waters in Khor Abdullah. The statement highlighted the "cold-blooded" killing of university student Najm Abdullah Khalid Al-Tamimi with live ammunition, noting he had just completed his final exams and sought to support his modest family. The office asserted this was not an solitary incident, with similar occurrences repeating since 2003. It urged the Iraqi and Basra local governments to protect the country's sovereignty over its maritime and land borders. The office also demanded an immediate end to these recurrent Kuwaiti aggressions against unarmed and peaceful Iraqi fishermen and a halt to continuous violations. The office reiterated its call for the Iraqi Parliament, especially Basra's representatives, to initiate hosting the Iraqi Foreign Minister, the Ambassador to Kuwait, and the Basra Governor, to ascertain the truth and uncover the full circumstances of this matter.
