Health Minister Directs Free Inclusion of Six Critical Categories in Insurance

Iraq's Minister of Health, Abdul Hussein Al-Moussawi, on Monday directed the free inclusion of six key diagnostic and therapeutic categories and procedures under health insurance. This move aims to activate the health insurance system, aligning with its law's core objectives to deliver high-quality services to all societal segments, particularly low-income individuals, easing their financial burden for necessary medical treatment. A ministry statement clarified that Al-Moussawi, as head of the Health Insurance Authority, mandated covering previously excluded categories. The free health insurance now includes kidney and liver transplants for both donor and recipient, brain catheterization, and open-heart surgery. It also covers kidney failure patients and those needing PET scans for tumors.
