Finance Ministry Launches Iraq's First Digital Tax Accounting System
The Ministry of Finance officially launched today, Saturday, Iraq's first digital system for tax accounting, initially targeting large taxpayers to enable them to finalize settlement procedures and pay dues remotely and directly. The ministry stated in an official release that Finance Minister Falih Sari personally supervised the activation of the new digital platform during his inspection visit to the General Commission for Taxes, joined by several ministry director generals. This initiative aligns with the government's program objectives to modernize national financial administration, accelerate comprehensive digital transformation, and streamline bureaucratic procedures, ultimately elevating operational efficiency and simplifying requirements for all taxpayers. The newly deployed platform allows taxpayers to complete computational requirements and settle liabilities electronically without the need to visit tax directorates in person. It also provides advanced capabilities for digital document archiving and facilitates return reviews by auditing and compliance teams, safeguarding public funds and treasury revenues. The minister commended the ministry's internal teams for executing this transition relying entirely on local institutional capabilities, noting that operating the electronic platform marks an essential practical move toward modernizing fiscal administration and replacing paper-based routines with advanced technical collection systems. Sari explained that this launch constitutes the first phase of an integrated tax digitization roadmap, emphasizing that starting with large taxpayers serves as a primary foundation, with future phases gradually extending to cover all taxpayer categories across the country.
