Drug dealer killed and security personnel injured in a grenade blast during a raid in Basra

A drug dealer was killed and five security personnel sustained injuries following a hand grenade detonation during a security operation conducted on Monday in Basra Governorate. A police command statement clarified that narcotics control units carried out a specific mission to apprehend a target, and upon surrounding him, the suspect brandished an explosive device. Despite negotiation efforts, he detonated the grenade while under the influence of substances, resulting in his immediate death and injuries to an officer and several personnel. Field information indicated that close monitoring of the suspect preceded the raid, and when he refused to surrender, SWAT reinforcements were called in. His continued refusal to give himself up culminated in the grenade blast, causing his death and injuries to personnel who were transferred to the hospital for treatment.
