Details of drug promoter death and seven security personnel injured in Basra bombing

The Directorate of Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Affairs clarified on Tuesday the details surrounding the death of a drug promoter and the wounding of two officers and five security personnel following a hand grenade explosion during an operation in Basra Governorate. The directorate stated in an official release that its units carried out a security mission to apprehend a drug promoter, and upon surrounding him, the suspect pulled out a hand grenade and detonated it during negotiations, resulting in his immediate death and injuries to seven security force members, including two officers. The directorate emphasized that such incidents will not deter its units from pursuing their duties with firmness, tracking down those involved in drug trafficking, and taking necessary legal actions. It concluded by stressing that security agencies continue to perform their duties to protect society, establish the rule of law, and counter anyone threatening public safety and security forces.
