Central Criminal Court Sentences Drug Dealer to Death for 85 kg Captagon Smuggling

The Central Criminal Court in Baghdad, on Wednesday, sentenced a drug dealer to death for drug trafficking. A statement from the Supreme Judicial Council explained that the convict was caught with 85 kilograms of drugs, including 489,000 Captagon pills. These were reportedly smuggled into the country via an aerial balloon equipped with GPS, intended for widespread sale and distribution. The ruling was issued based on Article 27/first of Law No. 50 of 2017 on Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances, along with Articles 47, 48, and 49 of the Penal Code.
