Supreme Judicial Council Directs Strict Enforcement Against Public Road Encroachments and Damages

The Supreme Judicial Council on Thursday directed strict enforcement against encroachments on public road easements and damage. The Council emphasized that specialized investigative courts must implement stringent legal measures. This directive followed the Council's discussion of a Baghdad Municipality letter concerning encroachments on public road easements and areas for public benefit. The Council stressed applying the offense according to Public Roads Law No. (35) of 2002, alongside penalties in Iraqi Penal Code No. (111) of 1969 for road and public facility violations. The Judicial Council also instructed tightening legal procedures against assaults on Baghdad Municipality personnel during project execution, referencing Articles (229) and (230) of the Penal Code. Earlier today, the Supreme Judicial Council held its tenth session, chaired by Judge Faiq Zaidan, President of the Federal Court of Cassation. The session included eulogies for late Deputy Public Prosecutor Ahmed Mahmoud Abdul and retired Judge Sabah Nouri Nasser. It also covered judicial promotions, transfers, appointments, and approving formations in line with public interest.
