Asian Cup 2027 Match Schedule Announced
The organizers of the 2027 Asian Cup announced on Monday the final schedule and dates for the tournament to be held in Saudi Arabia early next year. This step aims to reassure national associations across Asia about the progress of preparations according to the approved plan, especially in light of recent security developments in the region. The kickoff times and venues for all six group matches have been confirmed. The month-long tournament will feature 24 teams competing across eight stadiums in three cities: Riyadh, Jeddah, and Al Khobar. The tournament will begin on January 7 with a match between the Saudi national team and Palestine in Group A at 8:00 PM local time in Riyadh. Iran will compete in Group C alongside Syria, China, and Kyrgyzstan, starting their campaign against China on January 9 at 4:30 PM local time at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, which has a capacity of 26,000 spectators. On the same day, Australia will start its Group D matches against Singapore in Al Khobar. The final match is scheduled for Friday, February 5, at the King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh, which can accommodate 72,000 spectators. The Asian Football Confederation stated that the distribution of venues and match kickoff times in the final schedule take into account commercial requirements, major broadcast needs, and local arrangements aimed at increasing attendance and enhancing the fan experience. Continental club tournaments have faced disruptions due to security concerns, with some international sporting events planned in the region being canceled. Al Nassr's AFC Champions League Elite match against Neftchi Fergana, scheduled for October 12, was postponed following a security warning issued by the Saudi Civil Defense. Additionally, Al Nassr's home match against Al Wasl, planned for Monday within the same competition, was also postponed. Other sporting events were affected as well, including the relocation of the WTA season-ending championship from Riyadh to Indian Wells, California, USA. On Sunday, the French organization Amory Sport and the Saudi Motorsports Company announced the transfer of the 2027 Dakar Rally edition from Saudi Arabia to an undisclosed country.
