Former US President Donald Trump has shared a new image of a $100 banknote bearing his signature, months after the Treasury Department announced its intention to place a sitting president's signature on US paper currency for the first time. The image, posted by Trump on his "Truth Social" account, shows his signature above Bessent's signature. Previously, the $100 bill carried only the signatures of the Treasury Secretary and the Treasurer, not that of a sitting president. Then-Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent had stated in March that the Trump administration intended to put the president's signature on the $100 bill to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States' founding. Additionally, Treasurer Brandon Peach, in a statement issued last March, said: "The President's imprint on history as the architect of America's golden age economic renaissance is undeniable, and placing his signature on US currency is not only appropriate, but also well-deserved." Furthermore, some members of Congress desired to go a step further by placing Trump's image on currency, submitting a bill to propose his likeness on a commemorative $250 banknote. However, this prospect is considered highly unlikely, as it would require the support of Democratic senators. US law currently stipulates that "the likeness of a deceased person may only be placed on US currency and securities." Yet, the proposed bill introduced to the House of Representatives seeks to "exempt individuals who hold or have held the office of President of the United States." Earlier this year, employees of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing were already preparing prototypes for the $250 bill featuring Trump's image and signature.
