Tension and Physical Clash Inside Real Madrid Dressing Room

Deep concern and persistent tension have dominated the Real Madrid dressing room for several months, while manager Jose Mourinho has so far failed to alter this negative environment since taking over the team this summer. The royal club returns to competitive action on Saturday by hosting Villarreal in the eighth round of La Liga following a three-week pause, looking to bounce back from their previous 2-1 defeat against Atletico Madrid prior to the international break. The team urgently needs to regain its balance ahead of a grueling sequence of fixtures, beginning with an away clash against Roma on Wednesday in the Champions League, followed by consecutive home games against Sevilla and Leipzig, leading up to El Clasico against Barcelona on October 25. Despite players dispersing to represent their national teams over the past three weeks, the internal atmosphere remains intensely strained and far from reassuring. Journalist Anton Meana reported on Cadena SER's "El Larguero" program that the cold dressing room climate matches conditions from five months ago. He noted that Mourinho has been unable to transform the dynamics of players whose relationships were strained under Xabi Alonso and Arbeloa, revealing that matters even escalated into a physical clash between two undisclosed players. The Spanish radio station highlighted that this internal coldness, which even Mourinho's intensity could not dissolve, alongside controversies surrounding Kylian Mbappe, has generated an unsettling atmosphere ahead of a critical month of October. Meanwhile, Mbappe resumed group training on Wednesday for the first time since sustaining an injury during France's 1-0 victory over Turkey on September 25. The French forward had sparked frustration around the club following an unreserved nightclub outing and posting a controversial cycling video, alongside ambiguity over his fitness. Nevertheless, the French captain's physical condition is now optimal, making him fully available for the Villarreal fixture, which could prompt Mourinho to field him as a starter. Reports indicated that Mourinho held a meeting with the forward this week to guide him toward maintaining greater discretion in his private life off the pitch. The club reiterated that Mbappe is completely fine, with Mourinho anticipated to defend him strongly during Friday's press conference, while dismissing concerns of any official disciplinary issues or hostile fan reactions at the Santiago Bernabeu.
