The Spanish Football Federation has imposed a fine of 602 euros on Barcelona regarding the case involving unauthorized contact with player Julian Alvarez, without following the legal procedures outlined in transfer regulations. The decision came after an extraordinary investigation launched in late July following a formal complaint by Atletico Madrid, which holds a valid contract with Alvarez until June 2030, including a release clause of 500 million euros. Atletico Madrid accused Barcelona of attempting to negotiate with the player during the contractual protection period without officially notifying the club, violating Spanish competition regulations that require informing the current club before starting negotiations. Although harsher penalties such as suspension, activity bans, or stadium closure for one match could have been imposed, the sanction was limited to a monetary fine, considered minimal relative to the case's severity. This is not the first time similar disputes have arisen between the clubs; in summer 2019, a comparable case involving negotiations with French player Antoine Griezmann ended with a similarly limited fine and no additional sanctions. It is noted that FIFA did not intervene in this case as it concerns a dispute between two clubs under the same national federation.
