Security Officer Injured During Hostage Rescue Operation in Nahrawan, Baghdad
The Ministry of Interior announced on Thursday that a security officer was injured during an operation to rescue a family held hostage by a drug dealer in the Nahrawan area of Baghdad. The operation was carried out by a joint security force comprising the Federal Police Command and local police, based on judicial approvals to arrest a suspect wanted under Article 431 of the Penal Code. The operation followed a complaint filed by the suspect's father and a decision issued by the investigating judge, with the suspect's residence being fully surrounded. Upon arrival, the suspect, believed to be involved in drug trafficking, took his family members hostage and shot himself during a confrontation with the security forces. The security forces handled the situation professionally and firmly, resulting in an injury to a federal police officer, and the suspect was immediately transferred to the hospital. The ministry confirmed full control over the situation and its continued commitment to performing security duties to protect citizens.
