Qatar has announced the suspension of its plans to boost liquefied natural gas (LNG) production, a decision made after one of its gas tankers was attacked in the Strait of Hormuz. The chief executive of Qatar Energy, Saad al-Kaabi, issued the directive to halt expansion efforts at the Ras Laffan complex following discussions held in the wake of last Tuesday's incident. Qatar Gas Transport Company Limited (Nakilat) had previously reported that its LNG tanker, "Al-Rakkaiyat," suffered a projectile impact while navigating the vital Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday, July 7, 2026. Nakilat confirmed in its statement that no crew members were injured, and the incident caused no adverse environmental effects. The company continues close coordination with the tanker and its crew, monitoring the situation alongside relevant authorities, emphasizing that the safety of its personnel, environmental protection, and the integrity of its assets and operations remain paramount.
