The Ministry of Agriculture has revealed its move towards adjusting customs tariffs to ensure the stability of agricultural commodity prices in local markets. Mithaq Abdul Hussein, the Ministry's Technical Undersecretary, clarified that "customs tariffs are primarily applied to protect local products." He added that "the coincidence of these tariffs with the conditions surrounding Iraq and the region, and the existence of some of them, led to an increase in the prices of poultry industry inputs, such as feed." Consequently, the Ministry initiated contact with relevant bodies within the Ministerial Economic Council to explore the possibility of modifying these tariffs. The aim of this measure is to maintain appropriate and moderate prices for agricultural products, especially poultry, eggs, and meat, whenever feasible.
