Prime Minister Stresses Completion of Million Residential Land Project within Iraq's Development Plan
Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi affirmed on Monday that the current government approach focuses on preparing a development plan for Iraq extending until 2050, with a top priority being the completion of the "Million Residential Land Plots" project. This came during Al-Zaidi's reception of the UN Assistant Secretary-General and UNDP Administrator, Abdallah Al-Dardari, and his accompanying delegation. The meeting discussed project financing mechanisms, strengthening social protection programs, and establishing a development fund. The issue of Yazidi displaced persons was also discussed, along with the need to provide suitable conditions for their return and the possibility of including them in residential land plots within the project. The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of the relationship between Iraq and UN programs, especially in the economic and development fields. He pointed out that the government pursues an economic policy aimed at achieving comprehensive development across all sectors, and is working to review economic laws to align with new directions, serving citizens and enhancing stability and development. Al-Zaidi clarified that the 2050 development plan will be presented as a law to the Parliament, stressing that its priority is to complete the Million Residential Land Plots project, which is being implemented in all governorates, according to population and poverty rate criteria, to ensure fair distribution of services and development opportunities. For his part, Al-Dardari congratulated the Prime Minister on the government's vote of confidence from the Parliament. He affirmed the UNDP's readiness to provide all possible forms of support for Iraq's efforts, particularly in the areas of returning Yazidi IDPs, modernizing government institutions, and supporting anti-corruption efforts.
