Pakistan PM Welcomes US-Iran Talks Towards Global Peace
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated on Sunday that the commencement of direct negotiations between the United States and Iran marks "a great day that will lead to global peace." This came at the start of talks where U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance indicated he was meeting directly with the Iranians for the first time to resolve outstanding issues. Sharif expressed confidence in reaching an important document that will establish lasting peace, looking forward to fruitful negotiations between the two parties. He also thanked U.S. President Donald Trump for his active vision and efforts that led to these direct talks. For his part, J.D. Vance affirmed that the direct meeting with the Iranians aims to resolve pending matters, stressing the need to "turn the page on the past with Iran and reshape relations." Vance added that efforts would continue to achieve peace between Lebanon and Israel, expressing hope to solidify the ceasefire in Lebanon and make it permanent. The U.S. Vice President noted significant progress regarding the ceasefire in Lebanon, confirming substantial advancements in negotiations over the past two hours. Vance concluded by emphasizing his country's desire to ensure the free flow of oil and gas in the Middle East, adding that President Trump aims to see a different Middle East that encourages peace and stability, and that the Strait of Hormuz has been opened, with anticipation for further achievements.
