National Security Seizes 14 Tankers and Truck Loaded with Petroleum Products Destined for Smuggling
The National Security Agency announced today, Wednesday, the seizure of 14 tankers and a truck loaded with petroleum products intended for smuggling out of the country. The statement indicated that two security operations in the provinces of Anbar and Basra resulted in the confiscation of these quantities, coordinated with the relevant security and regulatory authorities. At the Al-Waleed border crossing in Anbar province, based on precise intelligence from the Ports Security Directorate, a joint committee was formed including Anbar Security Directorate, the National Intelligence Service, and Customs Police, which led to the seizure of 9 vehicles belonging to a petroleum transport company. Their loads were registered as refined oils, but inspection procedures revealed they were loaded with diesel fuel intended for smuggling. In Basra province, after obtaining the necessary judicial approvals, National Security detachments, in cooperation with Basra Operations Command, the Naval Force Command, and the Inspection Department of the Ministry of Oil, seized 5 tankers each with a capacity of 36,000 liters, loaded with black oil at the Al-Zubair district near the Free Zone gate. The operation resulted in the arrest of the five tanker drivers and a customs employee due to violations related to seal procedures, and inspections showed the tankers lacked approved tracking and monitoring devices. These operations are part of ongoing intelligence and regulatory efforts by the National Security Agency, in coordination with concerned authorities, to combat petroleum product smuggling, protect public funds, strengthen border control, and prevent exploitation of border crossings for illegal activities.
