Baghdad Operations Command conducted intensive inspection campaigns throughout the current year, resulting in the closure and removal of 210 metal smelting furnaces across various areas on both sides of the city. Media Director Brigadier General Abbas Al-Mufriji stated that 34 furnaces were removed in the areas of Taji, Abu Ghraib, and Mahmoudiya on one side, while 176 furnaces were shut down in Nahrawan, Nahda, Sabaa Qusour, Boub Al-Sham, Al-Husseiniya, Al-Obaidi, and Al-Kamaliya on the other side. He added that the campaigns also included the closure of 17 asphalt factories, 22 brick factories, 12 oxidized asphalt plants, 22 concrete casting plants, and 34 waste treatment and recycling factories. Al-Mufriji pointed out that these measures were coordinated with National Security forces and the Ministries of Environment and Health as part of joint efforts to monitor violating activities and take necessary legal actions to reduce environmental pollution and improve health conditions. He confirmed the continuation of field and inspection operations to curb industrial activities that do not comply with approved regulations, especially at smelting furnace sites and violating factories, aiming to protect the environment and reduce harm caused by emissions and pollutants affecting air quality and public health. He emphasized the importance of enhancing field monitoring and enforcing legal measures against violators to preserve the environment and community health.
