Ministry of Interior Warns Parents Against Minors Driving Vehicles: Life-Threatening and Explicit Legal Violation

The Ministry of Interior on Friday warned parents about the danger of allowing their minor children to drive vehicles, emphasizing that this act constitutes a clear legal violation and poses a direct threat to the lives of minors and all road users. Colonel Mohammed Ali Al-Hassoun, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior, clarified in a statement that traffic safety is a shared responsibility starting with the family and society, and is not limited to the measures taken by traffic patrols. Al-Hassoun stressed that minors driving vehicles puts their lives and the lives of others at grave risk. The ministry explained that Traffic Law No. (8) of 2019 established specific regulations for driving vehicles. Article (20) of the law stipulates that no vehicle may be driven without obtaining a driver's license. Article (21) specified the conditions and ages required for granting a driver's license according to its category. The statement also indicated that the law places significant responsibility on anyone who allows an unlicensed person to drive their vehicle. Article (33) provides for the punishment of the vehicle owner or possessor who enables an unauthorized person to drive, with imprisonment or a fine, or both penalties. Colonel Al-Hassoun affirmed the General Directorate of Traffic's continued intensification of awareness and supervisory campaigns, monitoring traffic violations, regulating traffic flow, and working to reduce accident causes. He reiterated his call to parents not to be lenient in allowing their children to drive vehicles in defiance of the applicable legal regulations.
