The Ministry of Construction, Housing, and Public Municipalities announced on Monday that the third bridge, part of the project linking the Two-Story Bridge to the Suspended Bridge, is slated for completion and operational service by the end of the current year. Ammar Adel Hussein Al-Maliki, Director General of the Roads and Bridges Department, confirmed the accelerated progress on the Two-Story Bridge to Suspended Bridge link, citing advanced completion rates. Al-Maliki emphasized speeding up work on the third bridge, extending from the Two-Story roundabout to the Green Zone, to ensure its timely commissioning within the project's first phase. He noted current efforts focus on this third bridge, connecting the Two-Story Bridge towards the Green Zone. He stressed the necessity of a two-shift system to meet the timeline, adhering to the latest technical specifications, implemented for the first time in Iraq. Al-Maliki highlighted the project's strategic importance as a new axis connecting Karkh and Rusafa via the Doura-Yusufiyah expressway, expected to significantly alleviate traffic congestion at Two-Story Square, Karrada, and adjacent areas. The total length of the viaduct, including the two bridges over the Tigris River, spans 1800 meters, with 110 meters over the river basin from the Two-Story Bridge connection point. The main viaduct features 36 spans, with concrete works fully completed, while the two bridges adjacent to the Suspended Bridge include 24 spans, 12 for each.
