Mbappé's Injury Sparks Questions Over Sports Boot Change
French star Kylian Mbappé sustained a left knee injury, just days after a Spanish physical therapist warned that changes in sports footwear could temporarily increase injury risk. This development coincides with Mbappé, the Real Madrid forward, recently switching from Nike footwear to the Swiss brand "On." Ángel Villanueva, a Spanish physical therapist specializing in knee injuries and anterior cruciate ligament rehabilitation, issued this warning days prior. According to Villanueva, director of "OMNIA Fisioterapia Majadahonda" center, "Any change in the boot, whether in its design, studs, stiffness, cushioning level, or weight, leads to a slight modification in biomechanics and the volume of loads placed on the feet, ankles, knees, and muscle chains, temporarily increasing the risk of injury." Only a few days after these warnings, Mbappé suffered his injury during France's match against Turkey. He scored the sole winning goal in the 54th minute before showing signs of pain and leaving the field minutes later. The Turkey match marked Mbappé's official debut in "On" company boots, ending years of collaboration with Nike to begin a new phase this September. Mbappé is set to return to Real Madrid for additional medical examinations, following initial reports confirming his left knee injury.
