Gulf Cup Federation Decides Iraq to Host "Gulf 28"

The Arab Gulf Cup Football Federation announced on Monday that Iraq will host the upcoming edition of the Gulf Cup tournament, "Gulf 28." The decision came after an executive office meeting held in Jeddah, on the sidelines of the "Gulf 27" competitions. Iraq's hosting assignment followed discussions on the hosting file during the executive office meeting. Federation President Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani chaired the session, attended by its members. The "Gulf 28" hosting file was a key item on the meeting's agenda. Attendees also discussed the future of Gulf tournaments and their development, alongside reviewing "Gulf 27" updates and upcoming commitments. The tournament returns to Iraq after its successful hosting of the 25th edition in Basra in 2023, which saw significant public attendance and organizational success. Kuwait then hosted the subsequent edition, with Saudi Arabia hosting the current one in Jeddah. Iraq is thus preparing to host its third Gulf Cup, following "Gulf 5" in Baghdad in 1979 and "Gulf 25" in Basra in 2023. "Gulf 28" marks the tournament's return three years after Basra hosted its twenty-fifth edition.
