Kurdistan Region Hands Over Gold, Pursues Corruption Suspects with Federal Government
The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) announced Monday the handover of 358 kilograms of seized gold to the Federal Commission of Integrity. This is part of ongoing joint cooperation with the federal government to combat corruption and recover public funds. The KRG Prime Minister's office noted the operation occurred within continuous coordination between Prime Minister Ali Falih Al-Zaidi and KRG Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, with specialized bodies from both governments participating. Barzani directed the KRG Ministry of Interior and Security Council to boost cooperation with federal agencies, to pursue and prosecute corruption suspects. Joint efforts previously led to legal actions and arrests of corruption suspects, alongside seizing and returning illicit money, gold, and properties to the public treasury. The gold handover represents the latest outcome of KRG-federal coordination. Both governments reiterated commitment to ongoing cooperation to combat corruption, recover public funds, and uphold integrity and the rule of law.
