The Kurdistan Regional Government announced today, Thursday, September 10, 2026, the achievement of a final settlement and resolution to the energy crisis faced by the region with "Mass" and "Qaiwan" investment companies. The government confirmed the gradual restoration of national electricity supply hours to citizens to their normal course. A source within the "Ronaki" (Light) project team revealed that the government held intensive discussions with the managements of both companies, which resulted in an end to the energy supply deficit. The source clarified that the allocated quotas and supply hours for subscribers would witness progressive improvement and stability, reaching normal levels. In the past few days, "Mass" and "Qaiwan" companies had cut approximately 550 megawatts from the region's national grid share. This negatively impacted the system and led to noticeable power outages for long hours in various cities and areas. Kojan Yassin, the supervisor of the "Ronaki" project, previously stated that the companies' move to reduce generation was unilateral and sudden, without any consultation or official approval from the Ministry of Electricity in the region. He noted that the ministry completely rejected the justifications put forth by the companies regarding "maintenance work." Yassin also indicated that the two companies are currently selling between 1400 to 1500 megawatts of energy to the federal government in Baghdad. The companies receive substantial financial revenues from these sales directly into their private accounts without transferring any percentages or amounts to the Kurdistan Regional Government's public treasury.
