Iraq's Water Revenues Surge Significantly, Flood Preparedness Underway

The Ministry of Water Resources announced a notable increase in revenues for the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, compared to the same period last year (2025). The ministry affirmed its continued measures to enhance strategic reserves and prepare for potential flood waves. Khalid Shamal, the ministry's official spokesperson, clarified to the official newspaper that Mosul Dam's revenues reached 641 cubic meters per second, compared to 192 cubic meters per second for the same period in 2025. Shamal also noted that the dam's lake currently holds 7 billion and 250 million cubic meters in storage, against 1 billion and 600 million cubic meters last year. For the Euphrates River, Shamal explained that Haditha Dam's revenues reached 896 cubic meters per second, compared to 158 cubic meters per second for the same period in 2025. Its current discharge volume is 500 cubic meters per second, versus 375 cubic meters per second previously. He further pointed out that Haditha Dam's revenues are more than six times last year's levels, which helped raise its storage to 5 billion and 100 million cubic meters, compared to about 1 billion and 800 million cubic meters in 2025, with an available storage capacity of 3 billion cubic meters.
