Iranian Parliament Advances New Law for Strait of Hormuz Management
Ali Nikzad, First Deputy Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, announced Sunday that the parliament is nearing completion of legislative procedures to enact a "Strait of Hormuz management" law. He noted the draft was prepared in coordination with governmental and military bodies. Nikzad stated that specialized parliamentary committees, including those for National Security, Internal Affairs, and Reconstruction, have begun studying the project with experts. The Iranian Foreign Ministry formed a team to examine the legal and diplomatic aspects of managing the Strait and coordinating with Oman. Its study findings were integrated into the draft law. The project's final version, consisting of 14 articles, has been referred to the General Staff of the Armed Forces and the Supreme National Security Council. This aims to incorporate security and military observations before presentation to the Shura Council for a vote. Nikzad affirmed that parliamentary sessions continued during the war, despite public sessions being suspended for security reasons. MPs held over 150 oversight meetings. He added that once public sessions resume, the Shura Council will prioritize several files: rebuilding war-damaged areas, addressing living conditions, securing essential goods, the Strait of Hormuz management project, and monitoring government performance.
