Integrity Commission dismantles corruption network of 19 employees and saves 13 billion dinars in Karbala
The Federal Integrity Commission announced the bust of a manipulation, bribery, and forgery ring involving nineteen employees in Karbala Governorate, halting the squandering of public funds exceeding thirteen billion dinars at the local grain silo. An investigative team from the Karbala Investigation Office inspected the facility following verified reports of severe irregularities in the amounts of marketed wheat. Auditing procedures uncovered received grain quantities vastly exceeding the official yields established by the Ministry of Agriculture, which were circulated through rigid quota lists, specifically designated for wheat purchased at the government-subsidized price of 700,000 dinars per ton. Two employees were apprehended red-handed for soliciting financial bribes from local farmers in exchange for inflating supplied crop amounts, with some recorded shipments artificially increased up to twenty times the actual harvest. The fraudulent scheme also included altering documentation issued by the local agriculture department and duplicate recording of single shipments across both the concrete and metallic silos to enable illicit gains. Judicial authorities subsequently issued summons notices against the silo director alongside sixteen additional staff members. Official calculations revealed that fraudulently registered grain reached 17,782 tons, representing a total safeguarded sum of 13,240,833,000 dinars. The presiding investigative judge ordered the provisional detention of two primary suspects under Article 289, granting bail to the remaining employees as comprehensive legal investigations continue.
