Government spokesperson Haydar Al-Aboudi confirmed today, Sunday, that Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi has decided against running in upcoming elections and will not establish a political party. During a press conference, Al-Aboudi stated the ministerial cabinet's formation will be finalized in July's first half, prior to the Prime Minister's Washington visit. He noted recent security changes align with current stage requirements, not punitive measures. He clarified the Iraqi government currently avoids foreign borrowing, asserting Iraq is not impoverished and has solutions, with positive signs of economic recovery. Al-Aboudi highlighted electricity as a top government priority, affirming determination to fully resolve the issue. The spokesperson emphasized Al-Zaidi's decision not to contest elections or form a party is vital to the government's agenda, ensuring decisive action against corrupt and negligent individuals. He added Al-Zaidi's Washington visit will extensively cover the Iraqi-American partnership across sectors, particularly economic cooperation. Regarding anti-corruption, Al-Aboudi affirmed the campaign continues against all accused, regardless of status. He revealed a comprehensive audit of all past contracts. He also announced halting several stalled projects (over 50% funded) due to companies lacking proper establishment documents. Finally, the 2027 budget is being prepared for legal submission to the Council of Representatives next October.
