Government Affirms: Iraq's Sovereignty a Non-Negotiable Red Line
A government spokesperson affirmed that the first one hundred days of Prime Minister Ali Falih Al-Zaidi's government represent the beginning of a clearer path towards consolidating state sovereignty. The spokesperson clarified that the government, since gaining the trust of the Council of Representatives and national political forces on May 14, 2026, has been working to embody its sovereign priorities through precise executive pathways, providing comprehensive solutions for national issues in accordance with state logic that preserves Iraq's interests and responds to citizens' demands. Following one hundred days and fifteen cabinet meetings, the spokesperson emphasized that the government has been keen from day one to base its performance on taking responsibility in decision-making, consolidating state sovereignty, protecting national decisions from any external impositions, and strengthening Iraq's foreign relations on the basis of mutual interests. The spokesperson added that the government is moving towards building a state that protects its citizens, addresses inherited and emerging challenges, and continues institutional and economic reforms that directly ensure a decent life for the Iraqi people and prevent threats to the general treasury's revenues. It was noted that the government looks forward to September 30 as a pivotal station in completing the national sovereignty path, making Iraq a fully sovereign state in its decisions, security, and territory, where no will is imposed from outside its institutions and no tools of power are left outside the state's authority. The spokesperson clarified that the implementation of this path is based on the constitutional and legal powers of the government, and its commitment to its agenda and program in consecrating state authority and confining tools of power to constitutionally and legally authorized military and security institutions. The spokesperson stressed that this path represents a state choice and a constitutional commitment aimed at completing the building of state institutions capable of enforcing law and protecting its territories and national decision, so that all tools of power are under the command of the state and all sovereign decisions are issued by its constitutional institutions. The spokesperson reiterated that Iraq's sovereignty is not subject to division, emphasizing at the same time that Iraq is open to its regional and international surroundings, establishing its relations on the basis of mutual respect and common interests, from the position of an independent state capable of making its own decisions and protecting its interests. The spokesperson concluded by asserting that the first one hundred days represent the beginning of a clearer path in which the state advances with its authority and institutions, and Iraq advances with its confidence and ability to protect its security, interests, and national decision.
