French Container Ship Exits Strait of Hormuz Amid Regional Complexities
The "Galapagos" container ship, operated by French giant CMA CGM, departed the Strait of Hormuz this Sunday morning. This follows a US-Iran temporary agreement to end a four-month conflict, aiming to reopen the waterway. However, Washington and Tehran then resumed attacks, exchanging accusations of agreement violations. The French company stated, "This passage marks an important milestone in a complex regional context requiring constant vigilance." It declined further comment on the ship's exit. CMA CGM added 10 other vessels remain stuck in the Gulf since the conflict's outset. Separately, a Hapag-Lloyd shipping group spokesperson announced last Thursday that the group withdrew all its ships from the Gulf after a meticulous security assessment and authority consultation. All Hapag-Lloyd vessels affected by Hormuz's temporary closure, awaiting departure, safely left the region.
