Civil Defense Responds to Student Suffocation Cases from Blackboard Paint Fumes in Maysan
The Civil Defense Directorate in Maysan province announced on Tuesday that it handled mild suffocation cases among several female students at a school in the Second Cairo neighborhood, due to fumes rising from blackboard paint containing black pigment. The statement explained that the Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) response team intervened to manage the incident affecting students in two classes, transferring them to the hospital for precautionary medical examinations. It added that all students were discharged from the hospital after confirming their health safety and returned to their classrooms. The technical inspection and survey results, using the CBRN team's sensor devices, indicated that the suffocation cases resulted from the emission of volatile carbon compounds due to black pigment paint applied on the blackboard in the mentioned classes.
