Barcelona Suffers Setback: Christensen Out with Muscle Strain
FC Barcelona has suffered a significant blow with the muscle strain injury of its Danish defender, Andreas Christensen, hours after the team's victory over Sevilla. The Catalan club announced, in a statement detailing the medical examinations the player underwent, that his return to training will be determined based on his recovery progress. Christensen had to leave the field at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán stadium in the 58th minute of the match against Sevilla, which Barcelona won (3-1), after a collision with Sevilla player Rubén Orihuela. The Danish defender requested medical intervention, and the medical staff immediately advised coach Hansi Flick to substitute him. This setback continues Christensen's recurring struggle with successive injuries that have plagued him over the past two seasons. The player missed 32 matches with the club and national team in the 2025/2026 season due to a cruciate ligament injury and calf problems, having also missed 53 matches in the 2024/2025 season due to Achilles tendon injuries and recurring muscular issues. This injury represents a major technical loss for the Catalan team, especially since the 29-year-old defender had regained his regular starting position in coach Hansi Flick's plans at the beginning of this season, participating in 7 out of the 8 matches the team has played in various competitions.
