Anbar mobilizes assets anticipating Euphrates emergencies through fortifications and emergency units
The Civil Defense Directorate in Anbar Governorate implemented a package of early preventive measures on Tuesday to deal with potential rises in Euphrates River water levels, as part of a strategy aimed at warding off risks to lives and public and private property. The directorate's Media and Public Relations Officer, Nuwas Sabah Shaker, explained in press statements that the plans included stationing rescue and firefighting teams along the riverbanks while continuously monitoring its course, alongside surveying weak areas and securing them by building earthen embankments and engineering defense barriers. He pointed out that the competent authorities obligated violators encroaching on the river basin to remove obstructions hindering water flow, stressing the continuation of joint cooperation with service and security institutions to monitor river levels and intervene immediately according to water situation developments.
