Washington Warns Citizens Over Saudi Airspace Disruptions
The United States Embassy in Saudi Arabia has urged its citizens to exercise extreme caution, warning of potential flight cancellations, airspace closures, and significant travel disruptions across the Kingdom. In a formal statement published on its official website and its X platform account, the embassy stated that these advisories follow ongoing security tensions and potential threats aimed at Saudi airports and airspace. American nationals were advised to account for possible air traffic interruptions and flight suspensions, while strongly recommending that travelers verify their itinerary status directly through operating airlines and local airports. Furthermore, the embassy instructed US citizens to avoid approaching the Yemeni border. Official United States government personnel are strictly prohibited from traveling within a 20-mile (32-kilometer) radius of the frontier, with special permits mandated for visits to several specific provinces and municipalities. These security precautions coincide with renewed military clashes since mid-July between the Yemeni Ansar Allah movement (Houthis) and government forces backed by Saudi Arabia, ending a four-year period of relative calm. During this span, Houthi forces seized full control over the western Red Sea coast and areas surrounding the Bab al-Mandab Strait, while Yemen's internationally recognized government announced on Monday the start of a military campaign to reclaim the capital, Sanaa.
