The US Federal Reserve decided to keep the main interest rates unchanged within the range of 3.75% to 4.00%, noting that gathering more economic data will help determine the appropriate monetary policy path moving forward. The decision was made with a majority of 10 members in favor and 2 dissenting votes from Lisa Cook and Beth Hammack, who supported a 25 basis point rate increase. The statement indicated that inflation remains high despite ongoing strong economic activity, with the economy expanding at a robust pace supported by resilient domestic spending and strong investment. It added that job gains continued to keep pace with labor force growth, unemployment remained steady, domestic spending held firm despite uncertainty, productivity growth was strong, and capital investment remained at high levels.
