US Chargé Affirms Support for Iraq's Foreign Prisoner Issue

Stephen Fagin, the U.S. Chargé d'Affaires in Baghdad, affirmed on Sunday the United States' support for Iraq regarding the foreign prisoner file. During a reception hosted by Justice Minister Khalid Shawani for Fagin, several issues of mutual concern were discussed. Foremost among these was the file of foreign prisoners transferred from Syria to Iraq, alongside ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in legal and judicial fields between the two nations. The meeting addressed mechanisms for cooperation and coordination concerning the foreign prisoner issue and methods for handling it in accordance with established legal frameworks and procedures, consistent with Iraqi laws and international commitments. Fagin, for his part, expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the Iraqi government and the Ministry of Justice for their role in the process of transferring foreign prisoners from Syria to Iraq. He emphasized that the United States is coordinating with its partners to provide the necessary support to Iraq in this matter, which contributes to bolstering joint efforts between Baghdad and Washington.
