US and UAE Establish Joint Task Force to Accelerate Military AI
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Tuesday the signing of an agreement with the United Arab Emirates to establish a bilateral task force aimed at accelerating the development of military artificial intelligence applications. This task force, named "Task Force Talon Synapse," is scheduled to be officially launched in the coming weeks. The team will be based in Abu Dhabi and will comprise approximately 20 American and Emirati experts specializing in artificial intelligence, data, and cybersecurity. Admiral Brad Cooper, commander of CENTCOM, described this step as a "historic milestone" in the course of cooperation with one of the United States' most prominent regional partners. Cooper affirmed that the objective is to accelerate the deployment of the latest AI technologies to support military forces, adding: "We share with our Emirati partners a strong commitment to adopting AI applications that foster innovation rapidly and broadly." CENTCOM had reported that Admiral Cooper discussed the idea of forming this force last year with UAE National Security Advisor Sheikh Tahnoun bin Zayed. CENTCOM also held meetings last month with Emirati defense officials and leaders of companies specialized in artificial intelligence during a visit to the region. The new task force will focus on integrating AI applications in key areas including intelligence support, critical infrastructure protection, and monitoring the regional security environment.
