US Affirms Coordination with Partners to Support Iraq on Foreign Prisoner File from Syria

The US Chargé d'Affaires, Joshua Harris, confirmed Saturday that the United States is coordinating with partners to support Iraq on the file of foreign prisoners transferred from Syria. Iraqi Justice Minister Khalid Shawani received the US Chargé d'Affaires in Baghdad. They discussed several mutual interest files, notably the foreign prisoners transferred from Syria to Iraq, alongside boosting bilateral legal and judicial cooperation. The discussion addressed cooperation and coordination mechanisms for the foreign prisoner file, and its handling according to adopted legal frameworks and procedures, aligning with Iraqi laws and international obligations. Harris thanked the Iraqi government and Justice Ministry for their role in transferring foreign prisoners.
